ABRAHAM
Selection.
Abraham went out from his kindred and land looking for a City whose builder and maker was God. (Hebrews 11:8-10; Genesis 12:1-3.) He (barring Noah) was the first one called out under God’s plan of selection. He journeyed on in this hope until he departed this life. (Genesis 25:8. Cf.Hebrews 11:13.) Yet, the promise remains that his people shall come from the east and the west and sit down at the banqueting tables in the Kingdom of Christ and of God. (Matthew 8:11.)
Foundation, Gates of Heavenly City.
Peter and the Apostles are at the head of the heavenly (as opposed to the earthly) aspect of God’s covenant with Abraham. They are identified with the foundational part of the heavenly city and its gates upon which are written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. Nothing above the foundation comes within the work of Peter and the first Church. The heavenly phase of the Jewish work lies between the foundation (and gates of the city) and the earthly.
Jerusalem’s throne and is represented by the figure of Jacob’s ladder. The Apostles sit upon twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:30. Cf. Revelation 21:14.) This connects the holy city above with the earthly one below.
ABRAHAM, FAITH OF
The faith of Abraham is more than a particular view as to specific Promises; it is a standing attitude, a deliberate faith in God. (Hebrews 11:8-19.) In reality, faith is a system of living.

"… Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." (Romans 4:3; Genesis 15:6.)
